Magento

Hello everyone!

We have chosen magento for our first ecommerce project and are very happy about that decision.
After reading the design guideline, i could make the necessary changes relatively quickly!
Have to say, that the team has made a great job.
But still there are two questions I have:

1. How do i assign my own template to a CMS page? In the administration i only see a dropdown with the standard templates...?!
2. Since I didn’t know about #1 I wanted to use the “Layout Update XML” section of the page as follows:

<reference name="root">
<action method="setTemplate"><template>page/my_template.phtml</template></action>
</reference>

but… with no effect…
was i naive in my expectation, that this field works this way?

Hmm

You need to make your self clear have you designed a template already

Do you have full comprehension on whats involved in the templating system

open up app/code/core/Mage/Cms/etc/config.xml and add your own template call there.

Try Logging into Magento admin

CMS>>>Manage Pages>>>home page (click on home page row ) make your changes paste your code in here

Just guessing here but this sort of change will effect the home page
