i removed everything and get this message.  can someone explain what each thing is so i have a basic & better understanding?  I am about to load magento on the root directory again.  I have done this many times and worked/modified my magento installation a number of times.  I removed everything because I was having trouble upgrading to 1.3.0 from 1.2.1.2.  Anyway, just wanted a basic understanding of what this stuff is and means.

Hello,

The ‘index of / ‘ is just saying that your looking at a directory that doesnt have an index file, like index.html, that is getting parsed.  If the directory is empty, there’s no files displayed.

Apache/2.2.11 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.11 OpenSSL/0.9.8i DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at http://www.avintel.com Port 80

This is called a ‘sever signature’:  http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#serversignature

The values the signature contains are the various versions of server software running on your web server;

Apache/2.2.11
mod_ssl/2.2.11
OpenSSL/0.9.8i
etc…

Nothing to worry about - be better to not have so much detailed info - but - it’s normal.
