Hi

i an using magento to run my store www.thesuncareshop.com but on several occasions customers have called up with the problem of not being able to add products to the cart every time they click add to cart button it displays “your shopping cart is empty” text, i have tried it on several PC’s and 2 of the ones i have tried have the same problem one is running IE7 and One is Safari, the odd this is that on some IE7 machines it works fine.

This is a very serious issue as it is limiting everyone’s customer base and once a customer has experienced this happening i doubt they will ever come back.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Does any one know how to fix or avoid the problem?

I got the same problem and can’t quite figure it out. Some other posts suggest checking server time, extending the lifetime of the cookie, disabling session validation settings, etc to no avail. Still getting the same issue with many IE7 and 6 users. I can’t duplicate the error when testing in IE7 so have really no idea what is wrong. Any info is appreciated.

I have a computer here which has the problem so I could do some testing but i am not a programmer so would need some help.
I have already checked the simple things like local computer settings including internet security and enabling cookies etc… to no avail

Why is this safari 4 issue not resolved?

I see it on Safari 4 on Mac.

Since a mac cost more you’d think this issue would be looked at since for us these are higher spending customers.

I see the issue on other sites too. ex. http://www.lodgerfootwear.com

You cannot log in or buy any items on safari and a mac.

As a minor you cannot log into Magento admin either.

So many questions and no answers.

I’m starting to love Magneto more and more and been using it for the past few Ecommerce sites that I’ve worked on.

But some times I get very frusterated when I go to a forum and people ask the same question a gizilian times and there is noby to answer them.

I too have the same problem with IE7 not adding products to the shopping cart.

I hope somebody from the Magneto team can help us solve this problem.

Thank you in advance.

Hi there - anything new on this Safari browser / checkout issue? How can other magento store owners be ok with safari users not being able to checkout? That’s a major issue.

Anyone have the magic answer?

Update & Potential Solution - I have a magento professional installation and read about a fix that is as follows?:

Change the Session Validation settings in the Magento Admin, found under System > Configurations > Web, to ‘no’ on everything except “Validate HTTP_USER_AGENT.” After doing this, go to System > Cache Management and refresh the configuration cache to apply the changes. - answer from - http://thewellrunsite.com/2009/02/12/fixing-the-magento-checkout-glitch/

I tried that and still didn’t work. The post also mentioned: With the help of Magento support we determined that the cause of the problem was the ISP providers. It appears that ISPs like AOL, Comcast, and Shaw.ca use a technique of changing IP addresses that cause security settings in Magento to empty the cart and not allow people to check out.

I attached a screenshot of my settings so if someone has a better solution please share.

Many thanks
Michael

I was having the same problem of clicking on add to cart and then it showing nothing in my cart. I believe the problem has to do with the cookies. I came across this link:

http://www.voodish.co.uk/articles/magento-cookie-problem-in-ie-chrome-opera-fixed/

And did #3 and it worked.

I logged in to my FTP then went to: Magento Folder/app/code/core/Mage/Core/Model/Session/Abstract/Varien.php

and commented out the following that starts at about line 78 as you see below.

/*
session_set_cookie_params(
$this->getCookie()->getLifetime(),
$this->getCookie()->getPath()
$this->getCookie()->getDomain(),
$this->getCookie()->isSecure(),
$this->getCookie()->getHttponly()
);
*/

After commenting out (using /* and */) I saved the file to server, click the add to cart button and it worked.

I was seeing this issue with the Safari browser on both Mac OSX and Windows 7.

I found the fix on another thread.

Do the following:

System >> Configuration >> Web Session Cookie Management

Use HTTP Only --> Set to No
