Hi to all!

Is it possible to import whole category tree using csv? Or maybe someone can tell me how to do this using phpmyadmin (what fields in what tables are necessary)?

Thanks!

Hello,

Once your categories created in Magento, check each of them in the table named “catalog_category_entity_varchar” and note the id.
Then export to csv the table called “catalog_category_product” for the structure and import to xls. take the id of your product in the column, then the id of the category(ies). do not hesitate to double (or more) the same id of the product if it includes in a tree.
Last colum is ‘0’

At last, import the filled table

Long Live Magento

One option is to use the following method: http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/1167/

Or you can write your own loader by writing in catalog_category_entity* tables, but it requires some work and there’s no warranty that the tables structure won’t change before 1.0 release (specially on tree related items).

Best option is probably to wait for the categories (and hopefully the products to categories) to be supported in Magento dataflow module.
