Those of you using Ubuntu (or other debian-based linux distro) will find out that PDO is not installed by default, nor is there a package for it.

The solution is to use PEAR.
You’ll need the development packages for php and mysql client as welll.

sudo apt-get install php-pear php5-dev libmysqlclient15-dev

Once that installs, use PEAR to install pdo & pdo_mysql

sudo pecl install pdo
sudo pecl install pdo_mysql

Finally, add the following to the end of your php.ini file:

extension=pdo.so
extension
=pdo_mysql.so

Then restart Apache and you’re done:

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

@sf-devel

You’re right, when you install

apt-get install php5-mysql

You get mysql, mysqli and pdo_mysql ready to run.
