I did a plain magento install (current version), with sample products, on a beefy VPS (1gb dedicated, 4gb burstable RAM, dual quad processors totaling 20ghz). there are three other VPS´ on this machine, but i dont even think they are in use. mysql hasn´t been tuned yet, it is a pretty default install. i am not really asking WHY it is slow, i am mainly concerned with getting a dependable measurement of performance so we can start benchmarking. the server is located in Atlanta.

First, what do people here generally use as benchmark when you start tuning your server? I´ve found only pingdom so far.

thanks in advance!
