Hi all,

We’re experiencing a challenge that we could use some community backing on.

We’re trying to setup Magento to use a sub-domain for the SSL checkout - like the following:
1. Storefront url: http://domain.com/
2. Desired SSL Checkout url: https://secure.domain.com/

We’ve configured Magento (Admin->Configuration->Web->Secure) to the following:

We’ve installed the SSL on that subdomain.
We’ve created the sub-domain “secure” and pointed the base path for that sub-domain to the root Magento directory.

We’re getting the following errors:
+ When proceeding to checkout after viewing item in cart, we get a 404 error
+ We also lose styling for the site

Any thoughts here as to what we may be missing? Any helpful things we could add to the .htaccess file that might assist?

Thanks,
Lee

[SOLVED]

Hi All,

We have a production environment setup: /public_html/MAGENTO_ROOT

We also have a staging environment setup: /public_html/staging/MAGENTO_ROOT

We had originally set the Staging environment Admin secure url to: https://secure.domain.com/staging/

Once we changed the value to the following, the checkout worked: https://secure.domain.com/

Thus, lesson learned - be sure you are testing the SSL Checkout on the exact url the SSL is certified for, sub-directories within that url don’t even work.

Thanks,
Lee

I’m also looking to set up SSL for my magento site on a subdomain as follows ‘secure.mydomain.com.” I purchased the SSL certificate for the ‘secure’ subdomain, changed the secure base URLs in magento, and copied the index.php and .htaccess to the subdomain but the SSL is not secure because it displays unsecure items.

I’m thinking I either need to purchase a wildcard SSL or copy all the files over to the Magento subdomain, but that doesn’t seem right. Another option I think would be to get an SSL for both ‘https://secure.mydomain.com’ and ‘https://www.mydomain.com’. Would it work then? I’m curious as to how you got yours working. Thanks.
