As I mentioned in another thread it would be great to have a textbox where you could paste your tracker code rather than only having Google Analytics available.

However something I noticed is when I signed up to the newsletter. The page reloads and says “Confirmation has been sent”. But if I were to track this action it would not work since there is no landing page or URL for the tracker to track, because the site just reloads.

I’d rather have the script load to a different page with a definate URL for this purpose.

Also it would be nice if you could ask for the users first name and not only email. This way you can personalize the e-mail marketing.

Good point. I’ll pass this along.

In regards to the tracking, I suppose you can load the page with a javascript variable that will report the action to the analytics application. In any case, both this and the names should be pretty easy to add.

The way that Google Analytics works is you create steps for your “conversion path”.  You will have to dig in to the server side code a little and track each step accordingly.  You don’t need unique URL’s, just a unique line of JavaScript for each step in the conversion path.

Some pseudo-code:

[script type="javascript"]
        _uacct
"UA-XXXXXX-X";

urchinTracker(<?php echo($newsletter_signup===TRUE) ? '/ga-goal/newsletter-step2' '/ga-goal/newsletter-step1' ?>);

[/script]

What about those tracking solutions that do not support this?

We have developed an extension which fix this problem.

Our Google Universal Analytics extension can help you to:

- Use the new Google Universal Analytics with your Magento
- Choose between classical transaction system (transaction sent on order success page) or server-side transaction system (transaction sent when invoicing)
- By choosing server-side system, you will have an exact conversion rate!
- Server-side transaction system, using Google’s Measurement Protocol support, allow you to track real transactions (only paid orders!)
- Track following events : Customer Registration, Customer Login, Customer Logout, Add product to cart, Add coupon code, Share wishlist, Add product to wishlist, Newsletter subscription & unsubscription (Ask for more!)
- Track magento ajax sections in onepage checkout
- Manage dimensions : customer ID, customer Email, customer group ID
