CSS for styled static blocks and pages: Where to put it? Existing CSS files or new?

We’re using a commercial theme for our site’s basic design, but we are making a number of static blocks and static CMS pages which will share certain design features, mostly local font and margin and border type stuff. We’d like to define styles for these and use them across a number of blocks and pages.

What CSS file should such additions be put in?

There are seven default CSS files in a Magento install. Should we piggyback on one of those and add our new styles?

Or should we create a new CSS file for this stuff? If so, how do we get it into the head of the page HTML, in such a way that it won’t be clobbered by Magento updates?
