I am uploading magneto to my server for testing. I am really excited about how sexy and simple magneto looks to be. But 115mb worth of upload? my FTP has been running on this for over 1 hour now.

Is this just due to the beta mode? Or will the final be this large as well?

I dont know if I can deal with a 2 hour plus upload on my 2mbps upload speed.

I would remove all od the svn files first before uploading… then rezip and upload the zip and extract this on the server… will be much quicker.

The package is 115MB unzipped.

Hahah, wow, what a change!

What’s killing me is the fact that there are 12,600+ folders and 11,800+ files… (more folders than files is funny too).  That’s going to be crazy to document and map out for developers

i think that many files and folders is the reason for the insane upload size. I will have to figure out how to upload the zip then upzip on the server. I normally just upload uncompressed files.

im glad to hear its coming down in size for the final version.

If you have SSH access, this is the simplest way - http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/Magento-Installation-via-SSH/

Wish I’d read this a couple of hours ago.  I’ve been uploading for over two hours now.  It is 117.9Mb at my end.  Glad to hear its going to be reduced but why are we working with a 115Mb file when it could get down to 3.7Mb?

We made a decision to release Magento with a full product database initially to minimize the learning curve. We didn’t expect people to extract and upload the data uncompressed. In any case, if you follow the SSH wiki post, it should be a snap.

Ah, I see. Thanks Roy - couldnt quite get my head round it but that makes sense.  I’m up to app:code:core:Newsletter and not overly confident with SSH so I’ll let it run out.  I didn’t know you could upload compressed files either - duh.  You’ll have to deal with the dunces amongst us I’m afraid.
