Okay so I have been testing my site and have gotten it where I want it. However, now I have a lot of orders and such in the system. Is there a way to globally delete these orders and anything else such as deleting who is on the mailing list, deleting user accounts etc?

Didn’t know if there was a preferred way to do it.

I’ll need to do this soon as well. I hope it’s possible.

For deleting orders I’ve used this script:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/1680/P210/#t96254

But don’t forget to backup your database first in case something goes wrong.

Otherwise, this is what I did when last moving Magento to server:
- first clean “report”, “cache” and “session” directories (all in “var” directory)
- than correct configuration data (database) in “app/etc/local.xml”
- and also correct in database table “core_config_data” secure in unsecure url

Hope it helps!

What do you mean correct the configuration data? I did the other things previously, but not sure what is meant by correcting the database.

Correct the data about the database Magento will use on the server:

<host><![CDATA[localhost]]></host> //if needed, stays the same most of the times
<username><![CDATA[****]]></username// -->fill **** with your data
<password><![CDATA[****]]></password>
<
dbname><![CDATA[****]]></dbname>

Thanks urko99! I’ll likely be trying this in the next few days.

If you want to move your Magento installation, you can try this: http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/index.php/viewthread/27272/

Also, you can read this post about deleting orders: http://inchoo.net/ecommerce/magento/delete-test-orders-in-magento/
