I want to move a Magento 1.7.0.1 site to a new server. Here’s what I did so far…

1.) I installed Magento 1.7.0.2 on the new server (is that okay that it’s .2?)
2.) I opened the database in PHPmyadmin and imported the sql dump from the site
3.) I used ftp to download the old site then I uploaded it on top of the new install from #1
4.) I changed the local.xml to point to the new database

I’m getting 500 error

Hi Eliyahna,

Did you clean the car on /var/cache? And the var/session?
Did you migrate to a new url? Because if you did you have to change on table “core_config_data” the values for “web/unsecure/base_url” and “web/secure/base_url” .

I’m just making some randomly questions I hope they help you.

Cheers,
José

Sounds like you might be having problems with your file permissions here is a tutorial on how to properly set them. Hope this helps

It could be a problem with the R directive. Hope you can figure it out.

Eliyahna, I think it would be easier for you to try Cart2Cart. This is a fully automated migration service. You’ve already installed a new version of Magento. So, all you need is to transfer database with several simple step. I hope my answer will help you!
