Replying to say that the solution from the top of page 1 still works perfectly! Don’t forget to flush the cache and run the “Catalog URL Rewrites” re-indexing.

How to remove parent category path from sub category url?
Instance: http://www.xxx.com/a/b/c
I just want the category c url is http://www.xxx.com/c
products url can be done in this case, but i don’t know how to do it in sub categories url.

Help!

PS: it can’t be solved by url rewrite magagement. because 1: cache refreshed, will no change again. and custom type rewrite is not the right way for seo too for copy page reason.

This might be a dumb question but I’m curious to know (I’m not that familiar with SEO): Why can’t you work with custom type rewrites? I thought this would just create a new url for the particular category and I’m fine. Or this there something going on like the old url being called and then 301 redirected to the new one? Sorry, but I’m a layman as these things are concerned.

Your feedback would be much appreciated, guess I’m doing something wrong ... thanks!

Hi Monty,

Thanks, I got this. However, I’m wondering what the SEO issue is with the manual rewrites. Because what I want to do will not work with this solution:

domain.com/aaa/bbb/ccc/ -> this is what the url would look like by default

domain.com/ccc/ -> this is what it will look like when I remove the parents

domain.com/bbb/ccc -> this is the desired url.

That’s why I’ve been working with manual rewrites. I’d like to understand what’s wrong about this in terms of SEO.

This appears to be fixed in CE 1.9. The solution on page one works for previous versions.
