hi,

when populating the store using an import file, only which columns in the import file are absolutely required by magento?

also, only which columns are absolutely required for a simple product checkout to succeed?

any answers would be greatly appreciated!

this depends if you are just updating a product or importing a complet product.

If just updating, the sku only is needed… as well as some “web” and “store” info.
eg, I am updating images products with a csv files, the first line of which is
“store”;"websites”;"sku”;"image”;"small_image”;"thumbnail"

THese 3 first columns seem to be needed for every update, eg a price or a description.

If you are importing products, you probably need also
“attribute_set”;"type”;"category_ids”;"name”;"status”;"visibility”;"qty";
as well as any other field which you have declared as required in your catalog definition.
