Hi

I am trying to create a layered navigation with dropdown boxes for the user to select a Make of vehicle, then a Model and then a Type of model.

I have successfully got the dropdowns to work using this code:
http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/5500/

I would like the Model dropdown select to be disabled until a selection is made from Make.
The same with Type. I would like Type to be disabled until a selection is made from Model.

I tried using this code to edit view.phtml
http://www.sonassi.com/knowledge-base/magento-kb/dependant-layered-navigation-filters-in-magento/

It’s not really what I want, but it would be ok if only I could work out how to apply this to more than one array. But I really want to disable the dropdowns rather than hide them completely.

The current set up in Magento is a problem because a user is can quickly click on Make, Model and Type and Magento will only pick up on the last thing clicked and show the Type selected and the Make and Model with say “please select.” This will just frustrate the user.

The image below is as far as I’ve managed to get.

Could anyone point me in the right direction.

Ok, after a bit of research I’ve realised that this is beyond my level, so I’m going to have a bash at trying to do what I want with this sidebar search:

http://inchoo.net/ecommerce/magento/advanced-search-sidebar-box/

My main problem with the Layered Navigation was possibility of selecting attributes in the wrong order and the user getting confused. The advanced search seems more straight forward.

Here’s hoping this does what I need.
