Magento

I have a client who is looking to use Magento as his store, but would like to then add on many community based components ala Threadless.com. Has anyone actually developed beyond what Magento is currently able to do or add some other features/components into their store that did not initially exist? If so, what was the experience like doing it?

i know that there will be a drupal integration, which can do almost everything.
if you haven’t known before, you should investigate in this direction.
