In Magento catalog options there’s the possibility to change the search engine between “Like”, “Fulltext” and and “Combine (Like and Fulltext)”.

Anyone has a full description of how they works and/or any examples for each of them?

Just quoting straight out of the book on page 79 (User Guide)

o Like: Includes only results that are close in spelling to the specified search terms.
o Fulltext: Includes only results that exactly match the specified search terms.
o Combine (Like and Fulltext): Includes both exact matches and close matches.

Most people use combine (make sure to reindex). Remember these search results won’t always be the best. Personally, I would suggest setting up Solr (which can be a whole project in itself).

Thanks for the infos smile

But the combine returns the sum of like and fulltext (so a lot of results...) or some kind of cross result?

PS: Solr looks very powerful but probabily a overpowered for my case

Hi, check this one. It greatly improves the quality and relevance of search results. Look at http://mirasvit.com/magento-extensions/magento-sphinx-search.html http://mirasvit.com/magento-extensions/magento-sphinx-search.html
