Hello,

I installed in directory: “magento” and configured the software.
Now I copied all the files to the real directory “/” home of my site.
All works on the store front, But the admin looks for the old directory - Where is it written? How to change this?

Thanks

Delete /var/cache from your new installation and all s/b fine.  I ran into the same thing and thats what Moshe, magento team guy told me to do and that fixed it

OK
1. So I erased the Cache directory (and all sub directories)
2. copied all the site to the root
and suddenly the menu on the top was gone and I could not enter the Admin anymore

An Idea?

if you move your shop (from web, or directory) you must change path in database.

in table
core_config_data change web/unsecure/base_path (in my db is row 723)
web/secure/base_path (727)

Attention!
When is Magento not in root path (/) have a bug in path to media/catalog (Image not show correctly).
You must create symbolic link from root path to new path for media directory.
