I was trying to upgrade from 1.2.0.2 to 1.2.0.3 and the files download successfully, but then I get the message

unable to unpack /home/hulu/public_html/downloader/pearlib/download/Mage_Core_Modules-1.2.0.3.tgz for all the files that downloaded

I guess this is a file permission problem?  But I upgraded to 1.2.0.2 successfully and haven’t changed anything since, so I don’t know what files or folders might be incorrectly set.

Please could someone advise?
Thanks

Do you suEXEC/suPHP enabled on your server? If so, make sure the permission for all files are set to ‘644’ and all directories to ‘755’. If you run PHP as an Apache module, you must chmod all files/directories to ‘777’ (not a good idea, security wise), or use the command line PEAR. Also make sure the file ownership is correct.

After a lot of fiddling, I completely emptied the downloader/download folder and then it seemed to work.

@Vicky H - Thanks for that. After I cleared my /downloader/pearlib/download directory, it installed.
