ok i tried to move magento from mypriceforyou.com/mypriceforyou to mypriceforyou.com. i copied the files in the cpanel using file manager, made the database updates, and changed the url in the admin section before attempting to move/copy the files. Now i get a blank page when i try to access it. Note that i have a zen cart installed on the root directory already so what i did was rename the index.php file from my zencart store to index1.php in case something went wrong with the change i could easily rename the index.php file back and be back up and running with zen cart. ohh yeah and not one single installation of magento will load now.

before attempting to move magento to the root folder i was able to successfully copy it to another directory that i created to test out the moving process and it worked, i was able to access the magento store from both directories myprceforyou.com/mypriceforyou and mypriceforyou.com/mypriceforyou1. I also copied my zencart to another directory in case things went bad i could revert to that one, which is also fully functional.

is there something that i did wrong or neglected to do? should i clear all the files from my root/public_html? and then move magento?

thank you..

Check if you have some .htaccess and if yes, delete it.
Then, copy a new one from Magento package.

thank you.

bluehost fixed the problem for me. They said i was missing a php.ini file somehow. but i have a plan to keep the move simple now.

i am going to create a directory named public_html2, then copy all my magento files to it, debug it and rename it public_html and it should work. then i just rename my old public_html directory as public_html2. any issues i can simply rename it back.

i think the problem was a conflict with magento and zencart. i should have completely removed zencart out of the directory before copying magento there.

@stylesofny

Hi. I’m not completely sure about how you moved your Magento instance. Here’s is a post with the three steps that you need to move Magento from directory or domian.

Did you follow this steps?
