I have uploaded the installation files to http://www.mysite.com/magento/
When I try go to http://www.mysite.com/magento or http://www.mysite.com/magento/index.php
I get the “500 internal server error” and I can’t show the page or any other php-file.

but if I remove the .htaccess-file from the directory then I can show a php-fle.

How do I get on with it?

I’m new to php but not to asp/programming/webmastering.

Sounds like a problem with your hta file.  post copy of it in this thread so someone can give you a hand with it.  Include your provider, versions magento, etc

is your mod_rewrite module on in apache? if not you will need to have that enabled.  If you do not have root access then you will have to ask your host for this, or some control panels have this option.

also i totaly forgot this is new but you can do this :

Admin > System > Configuration > Web > Use Web Server Rewrites = No
