like other search engines. instead of having to do syns in admin. an automatic and actual algorithm.  at least have a “did you mean” for the synonym results.

It could be done relatively easily with pspell:

http://us.php.net/pspell

How it would work is a custom dictionary would need to be created with the product names and description information. Then have pspell load that when you call it using the provided PHP extensions.

I also think this would be useful. Maybe when Varien integrates the “Enterprise Search”

Actually it is part of php:

The above functions you posted ddalton are extremely poor. Pspell is what you would want. Maybe one day I will create a module relating to this. It is not that difficult its just a matter of doing it.

Our Magento Sphinx Enterprise Search extension automatically implements these features and catches misspells.  Example:  Angels Cards typo’d as “Anjelz Kardz”

Demo available upon request.

Hello,

you can also have a look at Search Pro extension. It has highly-configurable autocomplete feature ans lets customers find what they need very quickly. With this module you will also be able to:

- Significantly increase relevance of search results
- Specify search priority for attributes
- Enable customers to easily find the necessary products
- Choose the search type – ‘like’, ‘fulltext’ or ‘combined’
