like other search engines. instead of having to do syns in admin. an automatic and actual algorithm.  at least have a “did you mean” for the synonym results.

It could be done relatively easily with pspell:

http://us.php.net/pspell

How it would work is a custom dictionary would need to be created with the product names and description information. Then have pspell load that when you call it using the provided PHP extensions.

I also think this would be useful. Maybe when Varien integrates the “Enterprise Search”

The above functions you posted ddalton are extremely poor. Pspell is what you would want. Maybe one day I will create a module relating to this. It is not that difficult its just a matter of doing it.

Our Magento Sphinx Enterprise Search extension automatically implements these features and catches misspells.  Example:  Angels Cards typo’d as “Anjelz Kardz”
