I’m working on setting up a store using Magento (ver. 1.7.0.2) for the first time.  I tried uploading an image while editing a CMS page and got an “Upload Http Error”.  Haven’t had any luck searching the forum for a solution that works.  I ran the magento-check.php and the server has all requirements. The media folder permissions are 777.

Any help appreciated!

Hello,

You should have 777 permissions not only for media folder, but for all the folders invested in it. It can be done with the console command:

chmod -R o+w media

Also if it is a test site and it is closed with .htaccess authorization, then the images can’t upload because of this authorization.
The owner of the media folder should be www-data
You can change the owner of the folders using this console command:

chown -R www-data:www-data media
