I have tried to upgrade 1.6.2.0 to newer version with magneto connect manager.... no luck.
Last attempt was with diff -files.

So I ran 1.6.2.0-1.7.0.0.diff

First I got an error about mark ‘<’ with Date.php in line 5009 so I closed the php class and error vanished.

Next error was this:

----------------------------------------------------------------
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Zend_Date in /xxx/xxx/public_html/app/code/core/Zend/Date.php on line 5049
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Row number might be different with original 1.7.0.0 -file while I added the ?> in one row.

Not a var/session permisson problem.

Not a php version problem.
