Magento Lightspeed POS shipping workflow

We are currently developing a Magento webstore for Lightspeed and are wondering if anyone in the community could share some workflows specifically around shipping.

We currently download orders to lightspeed>convert to invoice>export to CSV> send to warehouse

What Im curious about is how others are approaching processing orders so that customers receive either invoice and tracking numbers from Magento or just an email with tracking number and confirmation items have been shipped.

Are users currently stuck doing this manually in Lightspeed or is there a way that automates this process and shipping details can be uploaded to Lightspeed?

We don’t provide any integrations for Lightspeed but we do for other POS like Dynamics RMS. I would recommend sending an email to our info@nChannel.com email and ask for the development team. We may have someone that can help point you in the right direction for this as it sounds like an integration…

Most will either be manual processes (export, manual manipulation, import) or some point-to-point (direct application to application) code normally custom developed.

The way most reasonable size companies do this is via ETL solutions (extract, transform, load) which acts as a hub between applications otherwise known as middleware, either online or hosted onsite. Software such as SAP gained market share as it has built-in middleware between all processes such as warehousing, sales, accounting, crm, etc.

As you are using different applications and processes you either need multiple point-to-point connectors, which in the medium to long term cause serious maintenance issues, manual processes to perform the movements, or a single ETL solution that acts as the hub between all the applications.

We have both online SaaS and onsite hosted (via our parent) which connects your applications, a hub (ETL) normally costs 2-5x as much to implement upfront but is easier to maintain. Point-to-point (code to connect one application to the other directly) is often cheaper to build but costs 10x more in maintenance costs and is very inflexible.

It depends if you want the cheapest solution upfront (manual, point-to-point) which is good if you have a known problem with available solutions for your specific circumstances. We know that most Magento users are trying to connect their applications with combinations of manual processes, custom point-to-point code and where possible extensions.

Unfortunately they are coming to realise that the combinations to have the applications talk to each other directly are very fragile, cannot be updated without a complete system retest on both sides, and on balance do not actually reduce workload. This is why the larger companies who use middleware (normally coupled with a good PIM) are able to have higher profit margins, less staff, increased order processing, increased automation, increased product datasets, more streamlined delivery management and lower inventory on hand.
