Basic Australia Post shipping calculation is handled by the existing Fontis Australia extension. I would imagine that Fastway Couriers and Star Track Express could be handled by the table-rate shipping built into Magento.
Sorry, I hadn’t gone through my PMs yet. Since the answer is relevant for everyone, I’ll just reply here.
Yes, the Australia Post module will eventually include support for overnight satchels. The aim of the extension is to support all shipping options supported by Australia Post (or as many as is reasonable for an online store to use). There are quite a few options however so we added support initially for the most common ones.
Satchels are made more complicated by the fact that they have specific sizes that are supported, not just weights. (For parcels this less of an issue as the sizes supported are larger.) If calculations needs to take size into account then internal code necessary to do this needs to be added, as well as relevant attributes being added to all products so that the size of each product is known. For reasons similar to this, all forms of letter sending are not currently supported.
I will be adding more features to the extension when I have time available. If there is sufficient demand for certain features I can try and prioritise them. Currently the most requested feature is registered post support, which will be made available next.
The issue of sizes for satchels can easily be resolved by just using a weight factor.
If you ( the store owner) know the product you are selling wont fit into a satchel, then you make the weight of that particular product greater than the weight allowed for the satchel, eg greater than 3Kg’s.
That way the user wont be able to use the satchel option, only the standard parcel option.
That’s the way I currently do it in Zen.
Hope this helps.
PS.. still waiting for a resolution to the Banking Details issue..
Thought I’d drop in and mention my multiple tablerate extension called Auctionmaid Matrixrate. I’ve been working with a few clients in Australia and have recently adding in support for postcode ranges which I believe is required for Fastway couriers.
Depending on your needs, you may find that Karen’s extension mentioned above serves very well.
I use it for Aust Post satchels and Fastway satchels very successfully.
It works strictly on a weight basis, so if you have bulky items that fit the weight limits but are too bulky for the satchels then this may not work for you.
If you decide to give Matrix Rates a go, I have the csv file for Express Post satchels and Fastways satchels for Australia.
Thanks for that.
Have just installed Karen’s ext actually and it does look good. Currently we only supply what will fit in a satchel so this would suit certainly.
Was starting to explore the prodcut based shipping options but would prefer to avoid that.
Hi Jeff,
csv file for the Express Post satchels is attached.
Just check that the headings are correct for the current version of Matrixrates and note that the weight limit is in grams and is deliberately (for my purposes) set slightly higher than 3000g
Probably because Chris is the moderator of this forum?
Yeah the FAQ extension has just been installed and I’ve only just started to populate it. Some tweaking still necessary.
Im actually having some work done on our site by the Extension Developer commencing next week, so far they have proved to be very liable with excellent communication.
Some feedback on a couple of things:
1-Matrix Shipping Rates works well, thanks for the csv saved me some time.
2-First stage of work has been completed on our site by UnitedSol the developer of the FAQ ext you are using.
These guys are great, in particular Kamran. They know Magento and will not let up until you are 110% satisified.
Whats most pleasing is that we have had a few failed outsourcing attempts now and finally landed a team we will certainly use ongoing
without hesitation.
As for the rest of our site, Id like to get my head around GST and what appears to be a cumbersome order processing module in Magento, I’ll be sure to be asking further questions about that in a new thread - seems most topics on this have flaked, meaning some have given up or are being quiet about solutions
Hi guys we are looking at launching a store and want to just have 1 shipping option with a courier company (don’t care which one) that calculates the shipping automatically for each order - no importing CSVs, no restrictions on size etc. Is this possible? I am just interested in the easiest option for us and the customer. I found this site http://www.courierquotes.com.au who reckon they have a Magento plugin I’ll try that, has anyone used it or can anyone offer any alternatives?
