There are many threads about this but i still can’t seem to get it working so i am posting again in the hope one of you clever folks can see what im doing wrong.

Magento ver. 1.1.8

I have stripped the CSV file down to a single product with minimal fields to try to isolate the problem.

"type","category_id","name","code","price1"
"simple"
,"3","UniSolar US64 64W Solar Panel","US64","650"

Result:

Starting profile executionplease wait...
    *
WarningPlease don't close window during importing/exporting data

    * Starting Mage_Dataflow_Model_Convert_Parser_Csv :: parse
    * Found 2 rows
    * Starting catalog/convert_adapter_product :: parse
    * Skip import row, is not valid value "price1" for field "type"
    * Skip import row, is not valid value "650" for field "type"
    * Processed 100% 2/2 records
    * Imported 0 records
    * Finished profile execution.

I have attached a screenshot of my configuration.

Please help!

anyone? am i approaching this completely wrong?

I really need to import my product list from the previous site.

Can someone point me in the right direction to use advanced profiles? or perhaps a custom script?

For reference here is the best explanation i found http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/6220/#t26051

unfortunately the import feature leaves a lot to be desired. Main things to remember:-
- no column headings in your CSV. Even though there is a facility for mapping your column names to magentos, it does not work.
- columns must be in the same order as your list of mappings
- no columns that aren’t in the mappings
the columns i found to be required are:-

store
        <
map name="websites">websites
        <
map name="type">type
        <
map name="category_id">category_ids
        <
map name="name">name
        <
map name="code">sku
        <
map name="price1">price
        <
map name="attribute_set">attribute_set
        <
map name="description">description
        <
map name="short_description">short_description
        <
map name="weight">weight
        <
map name="tax_class_id">tax_class_id
        <
map name="visibility">visibility
        <
map name="status">status
        <
map name="image">image
        <
map name="small_image">small_image
        <
map name="thumbnail">thumbnail

again, the ‘mapping’ doesn’t actually work, its just the order that is important.

I was suprised this was such a hassle, its a pretty large barrier for adoption....

So now i am in the position of writing a script to parse the old-format csv and transform it into what magento wants. reorder it, add columns like type, attribute set, status, Visibility etc (rather them all by hand) and im wondering if there is a better way.

What is involved in writing my own (or fixing the current) Mapper and Validator parts of Dataflow as outlined here http://www.magentocommerce.com/blog/comments/announcing-magento-dataflow-a-flexible-data-exchange-engine/
