This is my very first post and I am just starting to learn Magento, hopefully I can get help from here, just like Zencart, joomla or whatever else.
My hosting is Bluehost, I want to install a magento website there and with some data so I can better play with it. I have followed the instruction on http://www.magentocommerce.com/knowledge-base/entry/installing-the-sample-data-for-magento, here is what I did:
1. On bluehost control panel, I created a new database/username, I imported the data package into the new database
2. On bluehost, if I use all the default setting, the installation will be successful but the database is empty
3. As I want to have some sample data in my site, I tried to install a new magento website and configure it to connect to the newly created database using the username, it gives me error:
Installing Magento 126.96.36.199 (Stable) to http://www.xiexianhui.com/magento
Conflicting Database Tables Exist
It looks like the database you have selected has existing tables that conflict with those for this installation. Please select a clean database for use, an alternate table prefix, or clear any conflicting tables (listed in debug below).
Show Debug (beta)
The error message doesn’t make sense to me.
Can anyone help?
I already tried:
Install a fresh new magento website on Bluehost with all the default setting and I got an empty magento website. I then tried to modified the local.xml file(which Bluehost told me that’s the config file) to change the connection info: 1. changed table_prefix, 2. changed username, password, dbname.
After changed the connection info, the website crashed.
So, what I was missing here? Can anyone give me any clues? This is my first ever installation of magento, it is really much less user-friendly compared to either zencart or joomla and it is driving me nut now.
Thank you in advance and any help is greatly appreciated.
