Hi all,

when reporting any issues please do the following after installing the extension:

1.) Visit the url: http://YOURMAGENTOWEBSITE/lib/minify/m.php

This should return
HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found

2.) Visit the url: http://YOURMAGENTOWEBSITE/lib/minify/m.php?f=/skin/frontend/default/default/css/print.css

You should see css in a condensed form. Also files starting with minify_ should be written to /var/minifycache.

3.) Change to address http://YOURMAGENTOWEBSITE/skin/m/1232681243/skin/frontend/default/default/css/print.css
This should show the identical file from step 2.
OR on Speedster versions < 2.0
http://YOURMAGENTOWEBSITE/minify/1232681243/skin/frontend/default/default/css/print.css

4.) Go to http://YOURMAGENTOWEBSITE and view the source

Copy and paste the address for the CSS and or JS files into your browser address bar. This should now give a minified output of all your requested files.

When reporting bugs please verify that you have followed the instruction carefully and let me know and what stage your installation runs into trouble. The net tab of the firebug firefox extension is generally helpful in finding out what is not loading correctly.

I did all this and it all seemed to happen like you said it would, except the last part isn’t really clear to me. If I view the file source, then go to the links you mentioned above, I should see what? The compressed code right?

I did what the instructions said. I’ve done everything to allow modrewrite, from what I’ve read online. I’m pretty sure the permissions are correct, I’m using XAMPP for windows to run my server and I’ve set the Windows permissions to allow just about everything on the files you mentioned.

Site still appears without css and js. :(

Hi OKKARE,

when you view the source of any of your shop’s pages you should see something like these lines:

<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="http://YOURMAGENTOWEBSITE/minify/1233635248/skin/frontend/default/default/css/reset.css,/skin/frontend/default/default/css/boxes.css,/skin/frontend/default/default/css/clears.css,/skin/frontend/default/default/css/menu.css,/skin/frontend/default/default/css/flexcrollstyles.css" media="all"></link>
<
script type="text/javascript" src="http://YOURMAGENTOWEBSITE/minify/1233632560/js/prototype/prototype.js,/js/prototype/validation.js,/js/scriptaculous/effects.js,/js/scriptaculous/controls.js,/js/varien/js.js,/js/varien/form.js,/js/mage/translate.js,/js/mage/cookies.js,/js/cot.js,/js/flexcroll/flexcroll.js" ></script>

When you copy and past the href/src bit out of your page into the browser’s address bar you should see the minified code.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am reinstalling the extension now to test that. You can see for yourself now too at http://okkare.com

I think I see the problem but not sure how to fix it. In .htaccess the path is “/” for the rewrite.

What do you think the problem is?

It says: script type="text/javascript" src="http://okkare.com/okkare/minify/1234720648/okkare/js/prototype/prototype.js,/okkare/js/prototype/validation.js,/okkare/js/scriptaculous/builder.js

That shouldn’t be there, right?

Depends on how your site is setup. When I went to http://okkare.com i was forwarded to http://okkare.com/okkare.
Do you have magento installed in your webroot or in a subdirectory?

The htacess to change is your main Magento htacess file abd should reside in http://okkare.com/okkare/.

Maybe try changing the RewriteBase to /okkare/

I’ve tried both to no joy. Could the problem be in what I set for base urls in the admin configuration menus?

Even more seriously, http://okkare.com/okkare/10-pack-american-apparel-track-jackets.html

http://okkare.com/okkare/admin

404. I can access my admin menu by going to http://okkare.com/okkare/index.php/admin though

Your extenssion is uninstalled but I think this maybe be from too much tinkering with it.

Anyway, if you have any ideas about either of these problems, I’d be very thankful.

Not sure - if you just want to try without having the additional okkare in the string you can edit this file

/app/code/community/Fooman/Speedster/Block/Page/Html/Head.php

change this line
$webroot=$dir[0];
to
$webroot="/";

Thanks for the step-by-step for troubleshooting.  We are 404 @ step 3.  I do see output in var/minifycache.  Any thoughts?

Hi blueben,

That means that minify can’t find the file. Have a look if the file /skin/frontend/default/default/css/boxes.css exists. Do you have magento installed in the webroot or in a subfolder?

Fooman,

The theme has been packaged up per best practice.  I neglected to say that the CSS & JS of the admin section die when this is enabled.
