Magento on Oracle

As it was explained at different points in our research of Magento and it meeting our business need, we understood that Magento will function on an Oracle database just as it does on MySQL. In a document on Magento’s RDBMS layer refactoring, it speaks to an Oracle server adapter and resource helpers being available and are pointed to and leverage the Oracle db based upon installation and proper db naming conventions for the adapters and resource helpers. Magento functionality should/will work out of the box on an Oracle database just as it does on its preferred/original database design regardless of any custom code or plugins we would write. So will Magento fully function just by proper installation for an Oracle database as it does with MySQL? We are struggling to have Magento function with Oracle. Does anyone have any tips for getting Magento to run on Oracle?

Note: We are using the Community version at this time for our proof of concept testing but we haven’t found that an Enterprise version is needed to operate with Oracle but if that is the case then that may be our problem.
