No emails get transmitted

Hello everybody,

I’m building my first magento shop (1.7.0.) but struggle with the transmission of emails.
For example, the function “email to a friend” doesn’t work, which means that no email will be sent out. And furthermore the transactional mails won’t get sended after buying a product.
Obviously there is a fundamental problem of understanding on my side. I would think that you’d have to let Magento know the passwords
of your email account. I inserted my email () in the configuration panel, but I doubt this is enough information for the system to distribute emails.
To put my question differently: how does Magento let my mailbox “know” that it should send out an email?
In my own understanding, Magento has to know the access data of my email account, right?
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for taking the time and sorry for my english. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.

Cheers!

Hi tease,

By default, Magento uses the default php function mail() which will send mail from your local server.

If you have issue with email sending, you should try Sunovisio SMTP Pro Extension. This extension will allow you to send mail from SMTP server (for example from a gmail account).

It may solve your problem.

Hope my answer will help you.

is it dedicated or shared hosting?
if shared go to your support and ask them to check it out.
if its your dedicated server, have your configured MTA?

or try this extension

Thanks for your answers.

I installed the A.Schroeder SMTP Pro Extension and it works. The Emails are now being send. The only problem I still have is with the sending of newsletters. The newsletters in the queue just doesn’t get send.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance!

Any mistakes in there?
Also, I setup a planned task in PLESK, so my server should execute the cron.php every 5 minutes I guess. See attachement.

Thanks!

Hi,

You should install this extension (it’s free) and it can save your life when working with cronjob.
http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/aoe-scheduler.html

If newsletter are working with this extension, the issue might be some configuration or so. Else you really have a problem with your newsletter.
