I’ve upgraded a Magento website from 1.6 and have found that in Catalog > Products, and editing a product the content of each tab which would normally be in the main column is crammed within the left tabs - both visually and in the HTML, as shown in the attached screenshot.
The site does have some extensions installed which deal with the admin area, but disabling them gives me dependency issues.
