Products still showing up in categories after they’ve been changed

Example: http://www.fugitivetoys.com/category/designer-vinyl/joe-ledbetter

The Out of Stock item is no longer in the Designer Vinyl > Joe Ledbetter category. It was at one time, but it’s definitely not categorized there anymore yet it still shows up.

I’ve tried clearing all of the caches. Anything else I should try?

I am also getting this problem and can prove that it is a bug. They say it was fixed, but I have the latest version (Magento ver. 1.2.0.2):
1. Disabled ALL CACHE
2. I made a backup of the database with no products.
3. I created one product
4. deleted that one product through the admin panel.
5. Products are still being shown in category, even though there are absolutely NO products in system.
6. Made another backup and compared both.

This is what is not being deleted (that I know of) when a product is deleted through the Admin Panel (PLEASE FIX!!):

cataloginventory_stock_item
catalog_category_product
catalog_product_entity_media_gallery
catalog_product_entity_media_gallery_value
catalog_category_entity_varchar
core_url_rewrite

I am posting this under bugs too.

I’m actually not trying to delete products...I’m just changing their category and they’re still showing up in their old category.

Anyone else have the problem I mentioned in my original post (ally’s response is NOT the problem I’m having).

I am having the same issue, and I am using 1.2.0.3.

Thus far I have done the following:

* checked the db to make sure no association to the brand existed
* purged cache from the admin

If I figure out a solution I’ll post it here.

Still no success, but I did try the following:

* disabled cache completely
* cleared layered nav
* rebuilt search index
* refreshed catalog rewrites

Got it. Basically, what happened was that the category index was not updated to reflect the change.

If you are able to figured out what the old category id is, and the product ids in question, you can execute one of the following sql snippets:

For a single product (with example ids):

DELETE FROM catalog_category_product_index WHERE category_id=17 AND product_id=241;

For a set of products (with example ids):

DELETE FROM catalog_category_product_index WHERE category_id=17 AND product_id IN (241,242);

I will be reporting this bug as well.

Exactly my point. We shouldn’t have to be going into the database to execute delete queries. There is a problem in the Magento code (ver. 1.2.0.2) in that the program doesn’t go back to delete (change) items from category tables and their joined tables when items are changed categories (or deleted).

That is why I added it to the bugs. Can you imagine how big the database would get with extra junk over time if not “pruned”? Not only that, there are problems with having these orphaned lines when importing mass products. To research these problems, you can do a search for other posts that I have posted in the past.

ally, as a software developer myself, I have dealt with this issues. Basically, this kind of stuff happens when you are trying to optimize the app for performance as much as possible. As a result certain trade offs are made. When those trade offs are made, little details like this tend to fall through the cracks. I have no doubt that the issues will be resolved in a timely manner provided we provide the staff with enough details in the bug reports so that they can repeat the issue and debug accordingly.

I’m having the same issue, running 1.2.0.1 - does the latest (1.2.1) release automatically fix this issue or am I still gonna have to go through the DB doing a clean up?

What I don’t understand is how the Admin Panel can show one thing, while the site shows another?

Any workaround for this to get the categories to indicate the correct number of products in the category? (Without going direct to database?

Also, I have file names ending in -1.html and -3.html, even though there are no products with similar names?
