How to extend Magento REST services?

Hello everyone!

I’m looking for a way to extend existing REST services (I need to add store management and lots of other stuff).
I found couple of topics for extending the API:

http://inchoo.net/ecommerce/magento/extending-the-magento-api/
http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/doc/webservices-api/custom-api#creating_custom_adapter_for_api

and was able to extend the SOAP API, however that doesn’t affect REST services.

Can you lead to some examples or at least to he documentation on where and what should be added to achieve the goal?
I’m very short on time… =(

Thank you very much!!!

Hi Jachus,

I have a basic tutorial on doing this at http://magepim.com/news/Extending-the-Magento-REST-API-part-1_13

It explains what you need to do to set the extension to the REST Api up and has one simple method (it actually creates it’s own REST resource rather than adding methods to the main Magento catalog, customer resources).

You’ll also need to read the sections on http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/doc/webservices-api/introduction_to_rest_api about setting up your REST consumer.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Rich!

The best info so far! Will try to implement something and see what turns out of it.

No worries,

Let me know if any of it doesn’t make sense.

I followed the tutorial however I received a
Invalid auth/bad request (got a 404, expected HTTP/1.1 20X or a redirect)

I have configured my user with all access and still the same, is there any additional configuration that we need? Some additional permissions?

I’ll try to have a look over the weekend and update the blog post if there is anything I’ve missed off previously.  I’ve seen a few people having issues on the Magento StackExchange site so will try to get some stuff on there too.
