Hello all -

I am new to Magento but really like the product. We are using it, very successfully, to power our store.

We have 1.1.6 installed but we have a couple of ebooks we want to sell so 1.2 is what we are after. I was going to install that version via Magento Connect manager, which sounds easy as pie in this post: http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/upgrading_magento but that post makes no mention of the dire warning not to upgrade a live site as in this post: http://www.magentocommerce.com/blog/comments/magento-version-120-is-now-available/ .

Downloading Magento via FTP took hours Do I have to now upload that download to a new directory, sending more hours before experimenting with upgrading before I tackle my live site? Or can Magento Connect manager be trusted to do the work? Is upgrading as easy as the first post, or as demanding as the second one?

Thanks for any help on this. I just don’t want to end up destroying all the work I’ve already accomplished on my site.

Hello

If you want my advice : DO NOT UPGRADE to 1.2.0.x on live site !!!

Chek http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewchild/12025/ and you will see that we are a lot of Magento users/developpers/webmasters having troubles with 1.2.0.x :(

Thanks, Daynos. I read through some of the posts on the link you included and I think your advice is sound.

As I looked through the directories on my current site, it appears my hosting company (which did the initial install) may have already put two copies of Magento on the site. I’ll check with them and see. If true, I already have my “experimental” site and should not disturb the live portion.

Thanks again!
