I also prefer the second one....very smooth design.

One comment however. The design is very slick and rich in web2.0 interface aesthetics, but If this is a sales channel for “blinds”, then is this still appropriate for the end customer?

I guess it depends on what type of blinds you are selling!

Ryan is right.

You have to learn how to design for the client.  Not for the trends, and not just to your style.

This design is nice, but it doesn’t fit a “blinds” websites at all.

I had the exact same thought - doesn’t suit a “blinds” website in my opinion. Nice design though

seems like you’re more concerned with looking “web 2.0” then actually designing a website for a client. those bright, overly prominent ‘html’ and ‘css’ validation links at the bottom...whats the point? it almost looks like you’re just designing for other web designers.

mmmm as i don’t have a client, there is no need to design for one....

it was just a quick design as an attempt at making a web 2.0 looking theme.  if you had a look, the first design sells newts..  i’m pretty sure the design doesn’t suit the content either, but having some form of content to pad out the design makes it easier to imagine a final product..

i guess a few people get caught up with the text instead of the look and feel (which was all i was showing...) and decide to tell me how i should design, and strangely i don’t see any of there work on show..

They’re nice designs butI one quick critique from me concerning the first one would be you are wasting a lot of real estate above the fold line You should really scale down the top half. Especially the search box and magnifying glass.

P.S. - If I had Magento templates, I’d be more than willing to have them up for critique. >:)

Like the second design very much, it’s very Web 2.0

Would love to see it as a finished template

I’m in need of some Newts! wink
Didn’t realize the content was not related. I’m always pleased to see design adaptations of Magento so please don’t take offense to comments, you’ve done a great job!
