I added my favicon.ico to /public_html/skin/frontend/default/my_theme/

Then visited http://www.my_site.com/skin/frontend/default/my_theme/favicon.ico in my browser.

There I saw the new favicon, I refreshed the page with Ctrl-F5 for good measure, then visted http://www.my_site.com and the favicon appeared.

Drew Jones

It’s Works

Thanks

If your replacing your fav icon just upload it to the root folder and your template folder.

The best and most simply way to see it in your browser is to visit the absolute url of the icon like this (example this website):
http://www.magentocommerce.com/favicon.ico
]

works great.

The best and most simply way to see it in your browser is to visit the absolute url of the icon like this (example this website):
http://www.magentocommerce.com/favicon.ico

If you replaced it, just give it a hard refresh (ctrl + f5) and you’ll see a new icon.
Then it works out in your website as well.
So just visit the absolute url instead of clearing magento cache and browser cache, it saves time wink

THIS WORKED FOR ME!!!

I was having this same issue in Firefox.  I had tried all of the above solutions and I had completely deleted the favicon files from the server in all of the skin folders and the root folder, re-uploaded them, and then was still having the issue after clearing the cache and setting about:config.  What finally did it was deleting all favicon files except the one in the root installation folder along with your index.php file, which solved my problem.  Hope that helps someone.

Oh yeah that helped me !

Thanks a lot SP Gear =)

To change the favicon.ico in Magento 1.7.0.2 with JM-Purity template:

if you view the homepage source you will notice that the type of the favicon.ico is image/x-icon a new higher res ico format.

So I created my favicon.ico using http://www.xiconeditor.com/ saved it as 16x16 as that is the same size as Magento\\\\\\\’s standard favicon.ico

Downloaded the new x-type formatted favicon.ico and copied it into:
\skin\frontend\default\jm_purity
which is where the favicon is picked up from.

You will notice in Windows Explorer that the favicon image is now visible as before it was just blank.

Ctrl F5 in your browser and bingo, your favicon appears in iExplorer.

Interestingly Chrome and Firefox will accept the old format.
