Anyone know how to clear the server cache? Our favicon was changed over a month ago and still shows the default Magento one. If I open it directly through file browsing on the server I see the new one, however if I open the SAME file through a browser I see the default Magento one (and I’m supposedly looking at the same file). So it’s definitely a cache issue. Do hosts generally do tickets to clear cache for you? We have command line access.

Thanks,
Sheryl

here’s a quick favicon I made for the backend.  Just place it in httpdocs/skin/adminhtml/default/default/

http://rapidshare.com/files/156657420/favicon.ico.html

I find it useful to when I’m working with multiple tabs. It helps me quickly locate the admin section for my store in the middle of all the magento forum tabs I have open at he same time (which is normally a lot when troubleshooting!)

I replaced all three instances of the favicon.ico that I found:

1) In the “public_html” folder.
2) In Magento’s root folder.
3) In the “skin/frontend/theme/theme” folder.

Then I cleared the cache in Firefox 3 and forced a refresh of my page with Control-F5.

The new favicon appeared just fine.

It appears that replacing a few instances is sufficient but if you would like to find them all, they can be found here:

root
/downloader/
/404/skin/default/images/
/report/skin/default/images/
/skin/adminhtml/default/default/
/skin/frontend/default/blue/
/skin/frontend/default/default/
/skin/install/default/default/

mine showed up right away with the cash off and replacing all of these instances.

I added my favicon.ico to /public_html/skin/frontend/default/my_theme/

Then visited http://www.my_site.com/skin/frontend/default/my_theme/favicon.ico in my browser.

There I saw the new favicon, I refreshed the page with Ctrl-F5 for good measure, then visted http://www.my_site.com and the favicon appeared.

For anyone looking to remove the favicon completely without replacing it - this is what I did. When I removed the favicon from ALL the folders and cleared cache etc. etc. somehow a magento favicon kept appearing. So I went in and commented out the code reqesting the favicon in:

app/design/frontend/default/your_theme/template/page/html/head.phtml

<!--<link rel="icon" href="<?php echo $this->getSkinUrl('favicon.ico') ?>" type="image/x-icon" />
<
link rel="shortcut icon" href="<?php echo $this->getSkinUrl('favicon.ico') ?>" type="image/x-icon" />-->

Hopefully that will help anyone having the same problem.

Best,

Mark

nothing helped and my favicon did not show up after all the other hints,
but to call it directly as you wrote changed the situation and it showed up.

Thanks!

Hi, I’ve changed all favicons everythere and clearedboth admin and browser cashes.

But magento still shows default favicon and direct call to ../skin/frontend/default/theme001/favicon.ico also gives a default one. But I’m shure I have mine there! I can download it with WinSCP and it’ll be a new one!

Can you please spare some advice?

I had no problem replacing my favicon for http pages but my https pages show the Magento favicon. I cannot find out why this is.

Does anybody know why http and https is different?

This worked for me in the frontend but my admin page favicon is still showing the old favicon.  Is there a similiar setting for the admin pages?

Just a quick note - I recently posted a blog about the magento favicon and where to change it here:

http://www.e-commercewebdesign.co.uk/blog/magento-tutorials/changing-your-magento-favicon.php

It takes you through creation to implementation and might be helpful to some.
