Hi, there.

I’m setting up an online shop for a printing company.
They want the customer to be able to
- select the product “Business Card”
- enter the required amount (eg 500)
- put the product into the cart
- select the product “Business Card” again (because he wants a different image printed on the second one)
- enter the required amount (eg 500)
- put the product into the cart

BUT: Since these two items will get different images printed on them, the shop must not sum up the two amounts to one single product, but keep the two cart items separated. Because printing 2 business cards with 500 pieces each ends up with a different price from printing 1 card with 1000 pieces.

Can products in Magento be configured as to not be summed up when having been put into the cart?

Thanks!

You don’t specify in your steps where the image is selected, but assuming that you will provide a range of images which can be applied to the business cards, then all you need to do is set up the cards as a Configurable Product.
That way, each variation of the product is treated as a different product in the cart.

Does that address your question?

Hi, Neil.

Thanks for your immediate answer.

Using Configurable Products for this sounds great. I’ll give it a try.
