Just downloaded lastest wamp and magento.

I put the magento folder into the www folder

I went to localhost/magento and says “The connection to localhost was interrupted.”

also tried localhost/magento/install

any ideas on why nothing shows up? because my other localhost files work fine.

I had the same issue with 1.6.2 and now 1.7 :(

As I do a lot of Joomla development work locally (WAMP & XAMPP), my convoluted solution was to upload the package to my remote server and install it there.

Then I Zipped the files and exported the DB.

Unzipped to my local folder and modified the local.xml file and changed the DB with Notepad++ for the correct local references.
After that Magento played fine on both my WAMP and XAMPP.

Try 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost.

Thanks guy. The solution is to go back to WAMP 2.1

WAMP 2.2 doesnt work with magento 1.7

You can download WAMP 2.1 here and magento works fine.

Thanks to another thread, I installed the 5.3 WAMP addon.  Once this was chosen, I was able to access magento (what I think is) normally.

Hope this helps

Di

To my knowledge only particular versions of WAMP and XAMPP are fully compatable with Magento 1.7. I was having the same sort of problems with Magento 1.6. I used the newest version of XAMPP when setting up a local server, but ran into issues. I am now using XAMPP 1.7.4 with Magento 1.6 and I’m having no problems at all.
