Hi, I\\\’m a new magento user and I\\\’m busy setting up my first webshop. Initially I have used the sample data but I have already changed a lot of templates and css-files to give my shop a whole new look. I\\\’m still working offline (XAMPP-environment).
I want to upgrade to the latest version of Magento and have downloaded 1.7
But now I see in the package that it contains also all templates and stylesheets etc.
I think upgrading with this package will overwrite all my modifications.
Of course I have made a copy of the Magento directory en subdirectories.
Can I copy the new files to the magento-directory and then overwrite the new files with the ones in wich I have been made changes?

Thank in advance for your help,
Yvonne

Hey,

using Magento’s overriding system, it should override the files in the base pacakge. If you’ve modified files in your magneto installation (without using the override system) it’s going to override your changes when you upgrade.

This is an example of how to put in your overrides. http://www.neotheme.com.au/blog/cat/magento/post/magento-theme-overrides/

Thanks Tony,

I’ve made my own package and have upgraded to 1.7!
Everything works fine.
