After installing magento everything looks pretty good.

Register works
but after login on
http://localhost/index.php/admin/dashboard/
a fatal error stop all
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4864 bytes) in /var/www/app/code/core/Mage/Sales/Helper/Data.php on line 47

Do somebody know a way out?

Thanks in advance

Hi, this seems like a server issue, you should try increasing memory limit in php.ini:

You just edit your php.ini and change the memory_limit to whatever value you need.
For ex: memory_limit = 32M

You need to reboot your web-server if PHP is a server module, so that new settings are applied.

in your case where Apache and php are hosted on your own machine, this php.ini change is the solution.
That might not be possible on other machines: you can then change the memory limit within htaccess (although the standard is currently configured so), or thru a local php.ini which would have just this memory size constraint, or, finally, thru php itself.
Note however that for these last solutions you will be limted by the sitewide limit: you can check that in phpinfo
