Hi - New to Magento here… was wanting to give it a test run but I can not get the install to come up.

I have found that my webhost is not running the version of PHP needed, so I did the CGI based thing for it.  But it’s now coming up with a 404 error.

I have checked with my host, and mod_rewrite is enabled.  Here is my .htaccess file:

############################################
## uncomment these lines for CGI mode

Action php5-cgi /cgi-bin/php-cgi
AddHandler php5
-cgi .php

############################################
## default index file

DirectoryIndex index.php

<IfModule mod_php5.c>

############################################
## disable magic quotes for php request vars

php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off

############################################
## enable php short tags for templates

php_flag short_open_tag on

</IfModule>

<
IfModule mod_ssl.c>

############################################
## make HTTPS env vars available for CGI mode

SSLOptions StdEnvVars

</IfModule>

<
IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

############################################
## enable rewrites

Options +FollowSymLinks
    RewriteEngine on

############################################
## you can put here your magento root folder path relative to web root

RewriteBase /magento/

############################################
## always send 404 on missing files in these folders

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(media|skin|js)/

############################################
## never rewrite for existing files, directories and links

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond
%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteCond
%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l

############################################
## rewrite everything else to index.php

RewriteRule .* index.php

</IfModule>

Order allow,deny
Allow from all

Here is the exact error I’m getting…

Not Found
The requested URL /cgi-bin/php-cgi/magento/index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I do not understand why it’s trying to call from the cgi-bin folder?

I have my magento folder off my root.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I’m a current user of CreLoaded and I’m just tired of the lack of support with that.  I currently run 2 stores and need something more flexible and better supported than CreLoaded.  I’ve already spent far too much money there.

Thanks!
Julie

Is it possible that your CGI executable has different name than /cgi-bin/php-cgi ?

Hi - thanks for responding.  After you said that, yes… the file that I downloaded was called php5-cgi

smile

I just went to the install page fine.  Thank you!
