Hi

I have my customized theme/package in /app/design/frontend/mytheme/default and skin/frontend/mytheme/default.
When updating to a newer version, I normally extract the magento archive and copy the mytheme folders & media from the previous setup.

But I’ve also changed a little bit of code in app/code/core/Mage.
So how can I update code without affecting the changed I’ve made ?

Thanks

It’s a problem change the core code.
Maybe you can create your own classes or modules and override the original ones.
In that way, you’ll never gonna get trobules on Magento updates.

I use SVN to handle this. You could also use something like beyondcompare. Then you can compare the two version (1.2.x that you modified and the new one) and do a three way merge

I think that you need the two methods.
Use some version control software, and never modify core code. Override that classes that you need working different.
