How do I make a variable in the URL automatically turn on a catalog discount rule?

Hi all and thanks for viewing my post.

I’m trying to have a discount rule be enabled when a user comes from a Google Ad, and want some way of triggering the discount through a url.

(i.e.) http://www.mysite.com/magento/?v=google

And have a pre-definied discount kick in.

I suspect this is in the URL key feature of the rule section, but I’m not sure.

I appreciate the help!
