Hi,

Is there a way I can replicate the demo store in a local installation?

Thanks,

Venkatesh K

The latest install pretty much does this, you just need to add the products in the latest version, however they are included in the previous version so I imagine you could export it somehow.

i too am wondering how to replicate demo store in local installation. After i installed it and load up index.php, the home page is blanc. there are no products or categories on the side. It does have community poll, compare products, my cart etc. Am i missing an import .sql file? I was hoping the local install file would have the static blocks in there already so i can play around with it.

thanks

L

Wondering the same thing here?  I added a category and product in the admin, but still have a blank main page… other than what was there when I first installed… I do not show any categories or products....

A little confused on how I am supposed to sell stuff if it doesnt show up?

HI Baybee,

Did you mark categories as active in the admin.
Also for the category to be visible in the header it should be a sub category of the Root Catalog

Thank you!  I got it working.  Now just have to get the images to show up.

Specifically product images.  I upload the small, thumbnail and base image for a product, however, it does not show up on the front end or admin (not sure if I am supposed to be able to see it in the admin or not since I am new to Magento).

See what I have so far:

I cannot see this site, getting server not found.
Is it a live server or you are running on the IP?

No problem, what you need to do is:
1) Navigate to Admin > System > Configuration
2) Click on the “Catalog” in the left column
3) Place this as a paths in Images Configurations for:
a) Category upload url: {{base_path}}media/catalog/category/
b) Product upload url:  {{base_path}}media/catalog/product/

See if it will take care of this issue.

You will also have link to preview images in the admin, once you upload an image.

Still no images in admin or the front end.  On the front end, the area where they should show acts like it’s going to load an image, then it doesnt.  Nothing in the admin either.

When I click on the link in the admin, I get a pop up window with a broken image box and this is the image URL if I click on the broken image box and properties:  https://embraceableurns.com/magento/media/catalog/category/%20c/a/category_ceramic_bisque_2.gif

You can see there is a %20 in the URL and I have no idea where that is coming from…

Same for the products in admin.

Still doing the same as it was before in front end… still not showing.

it looks like that you have a space after Images configuration URLs in the admin.
Site is trying to create this path for the images now:
http://embraceableurns.com/magento/media/catalog/product/%201/0/1004-2AirForceSmiley_160_2.jpg
%20 means that you have a space.
The correct path looks like:
http://embraceableurns.com/magento/media/catalog/product/d/m/dm25-trans.gif

Hi Lior,

Yes, that is what I was just editing my post about.  I edited the paths.  Images are coming up.  Now, how do I control the sizes of the images?  For instance, I’d like my thumbnails to stay in “aspect” so the images dont look distorted.  And the product image on the product page I’d like to have it fit into the area provided for viewing and it the customer would like to zoom in, then they can, but they start off viewing the entire item.

I’m so new to Magento.  I have been running OScommerce or Creloaded for over 6 years now… so, learning something new like this is a little difficult.  But I so greatly appreciate your help.  The non-support of Creloaded is why I am in search of another ecommerce solution for my websites.

Also, how do I keep my images, when I upload them for the 3 product images to stop renaming the file with a _# and then I have 3 differently named image files of the same exact image.  Shouldnt it just use one image and if it is the same either use the one already there or overwrite?

Thanks much!

DK,
How did you make the Static Blocks? The Wiki is old on the process, so I’m lost. Your demo store shows it just fine.
