Hi

I completed an upgrade from 1.4 to 1.6.1 and all works properly

The new server is very powerful and in fact the site navigation is very fast. Also save the single pages is very fast.

Only big problem is saving products!!! Is very slow, usually it takes about 60 seconds !!!

someone has no idea what it is?

Yeah… finally I found a workaround

set manual “Index product attributes for layered navigation building” in index process

Now I save a product in 9 seconds (first it took at least 45 seconds until 2 minutes!!!)

it’s true that now I have to manually update index attributes but now I can works very well with magento

I think it’s a problem of 1.6, this did not happen on 1.4 !!!

I hope I was helpful for those who have the same problem

I will try to report this as a bug

There is simple module resolving this problem (Catalog database Accelerator) which is removing unnecessary Magento indexing and other processes on products that are not effected by the save.

Magento is designed to work this way, if you have 10s thousands products and many stores then you need good hosting if a db repair does not solve the problem. A migration instead of an upgrade is also a good idea if all else fails. Yes you can switch the indexing to manual but that defeats the purpose of Magento so that data is updated, performing a reindex causes other problems including tying the servers up for sometimes many hours so Google reduces your ranking and visitors drop away. There are extensions but it is another layer of code, you should be using Magento more or less out-of-the-box where possible as extensions have other side effects which normally you will not see for weeks to months.
