How can I install to a custom design package using Magento Connect?

I’m using a custom theme which is enabled in Admin > System > Configuration > Design > Package > Current Package Name > ‘my-custom-package’

How can I install extensions to the corresponding place? i.e. app/design/frontend/my-custom-package/default

Currently they are being incorrectly installed to app/design/frontend/default/default which means they don’t work!!

Am on 1.6.1.0

So no one is successfully using Magento Connect with a custom design package???

I have the same issue.

I would be happy to do it manually, but when you just get your extension key,
how can you find the .gz file and install it manually?
