I am trying to update my table rates and upon uploading the modified csv (which had been exported prior to re-upload) I am getting the following error;

Notice: Undefined index: * in urltomagento/app/code/core/Mage/Shipping/Model/Mysql4/Carrier/Tablerate.php on line 208

The csv table is set up as such;

Country Region/State Zip/Postal Code Weight (and above) Shipping Price
* * * 3 19.99
* * * 2 14.99
* * * 1.5 9.99
* * * 1 7.49
* * * 0.75 5.99
* * * 0.5 4.99
* * * 0.25 2.99
* * * 0 1.99

Wow.  This just blew us out of the water hours before launch.  We went to do a last tweak/update to our tablerates and encountered this FAIL.

The Release notes for 1.1.8 has the line:

* Fixed shipping tablerates for regions with the same code

It obviously is missing the line:

* Broke shipping tablerates for everyone else

Its like someone changed the code to fix a certain condition and then never bothered to test it.

Did a diff of the Tablerate.php module between 1.1.6 and 1.18 and decided that if tablerates were working fine for you on 1.1.6 its safe to replace the module with the 1.1.6 version.

If you have and/or are upgrading to 1.1.8 and using tablerates CSV upload will break for you until you revert the parsing code back to 1.1.6

alas 1.1.8 is a little too buggy for my liking but I desperately needed Google Checkout free shipping fixed which came in 1.1.8..
It needs work to fix the new bugs as there are a fair few.. and a fair few frustrating old ‘uns too..

Waiting anticipating, Magento like a good wine evidently needs time to mature..

This is a 1.1.8 specififc bug that has ben corrected lately.

In fact, rate specified using the * value for the Country are not accepted when importing the csv file…
You should be able to import anything like

"Country","Region/State","Zip/Postal Code","Weight (and above)","Shipping Price"
ITA,*,*,10,15
ITA
,*,*,20,30
FRA
,*,*,

But anyhting like this don’t work

"Country","Region/State","Zip/Postal Code","Weight (and above)","Shipping Price"
*,*,*,10000,50

This kind of lines causes the error Notice: Undefined index: *

This issue occurs only while importing cause magento doesn’t know how to handle country with value *. So you can make all you inserts with the CSV file first and just add your * specific inserts directly into DB

As example for inserting

"Country","Region/State","Zip/Postal Code","Weight (and above)","Shipping Price"
*,*,*,10000,50
You have to add a new record into the “shipping_tablerate” table with attribute “dest_country_id” =0, other attributes can be inserted on the basis of all other inserts.

This worked for me, I thought it could help…
