Hi I’m web developer and have to build a multi-language e-commerce stall for a client.
I was considering magento, though have a few questions about the best on-page SEO practices.

- Is it possible to produce SEO-friendly URLs (ie static URLs with containing keywords)
- Canonical URLs
- Description tags on every page
- Is it easy to get uo an xml and html sitemap

Thanks for the help

Ok that sounds good. Are the ad ons free or payment?
- The <title> and <description> tags - are they “personalised” for each page, containing keywords and products actually on that page, or are they a general “online ecommerce store - buy online now” type of message?

Thanks

Yes, you can create personalized metas.  The addons I’ve mentioned are paid but goes with free support service what quite important for such solution as magento.  Btw, you can check the demo of the “pure” magento here: http://demo.magentocommerce.com/electronics/computers/laptops

Can ask roughly how much for a full range of SEO add-ons, and if this is an annual fee or one-off?

All needed SEO functions are already included, and you can find most of it when you add a product, in the General and meta information tabs. You actually don\\\’t need a plugin, Magento is developed with SEO in mind. Plugins can only make it easier grin

All these are default Magento Community features. No need of any premium extensions to achieve this. In fact, Magento is quite SEO friendly out of the box.

SEO+ extension for Magento store is very effective to make our store search engine friendly. I have also added this plug in recently in my Magento store and results are very good. I think if we are not visible in search engine then all things are in vain for our eCommerce store.
